Mahogany tall-case astronomical clock. The hood has a molded arch pediment with pierced and carved fretwork, three brass urn-and-spire finials on plinths, free-standing stop-fluted columns with brass capitals, bases and stop fluting at the front corners, and a glazed door with an astragal top. Waist with cove molding at the top, stop-fluted quarter columns with brass capitals, bases and stop fluting at the front corners, and a case door with an astragal top and a plaque inscribed "Made by the Hon. Walter Folger of Nantucket in the year 1787 at the age of 22." Base with cove and ovolo moldings at the top, ogee molding at the bottom and supported on ogee bracket feet. Engraved dial with roman hour numerals and arabic minute numerals, engraved ornament in the spandrels, engraved roundel in the lunette, flanked by engraved foliage. Inside the roundel there is the engraved image of a bird and an aperture for displaying the year in the lunette. Inside the chapter ring there is an engraved calendar dial which displays the day of the month, and two semi circular openings. The outermost opening displays the movement of the moon, with a small model moon that is painted half black and half silver. The inner opening contains a gilt representation of the sun, which travels from left to right as the day progresses. Both openings have a series of shutters which open and close to compensate for the varying length of daylight during different seasons. The dial is engraved "Walter Folger Nantucket." Eight day movement.
